There are people in this profession who show up and do good work. And then there are people who show up and change the direction of the whole thing. Dr. Drew Hall is the second kind.
He is the president of the Blair Chiropractic Society, a chiropractor with over 9,000 patients seen in 15 years of practice, and one of the most driven people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. When I called him a firecracker in the upper cervical movement, he did not argue. Because he knows what it is to have your life saved by this work, and he has spent every day since making sure as many other people as possible find their way to it.
The X-Ray That Broke His Heart
Before we got into Dr. Hall's story, he told me about a case he had just seen that week. A 26-year-old woman, referred in by two chiropractic students, who had been struggling with severe emotional dysregulation her entire life. When he looked at her lateral X-ray, he saw something that made his heart drop: her atlas was not just misaligned. The posterior arch was jammed against the base of her skull, with almost no space between them at all.
He knew immediately what that meant. He knew what her life had probably looked like. He put her on the table and made the correction.
Twenty-four hours later, he took a post-correction X-ray out of curiosity. There was measurable space where there had been none. And she texted him that morning to say the mental fog had lifted for the first time in as long as she could remember.
When he texted me about this case, he said: this girl is you fifteen years ago. And he was right. That is exactly what my X-ray looked like. That is exactly what my life felt like before my Blair correction. And that is exactly why we cannot stop telling these stories.
Dropped on His Head at Seventeen
Dr. Hall's own story starts in high school. He was seventeen, on the varsity baseball team, and roughhousing with a friend the way teenage boys do. His friend picked him up, lost his grip, and dropped him flat on his head.
What followed was years of symptoms he could not explain and doctors could not diagnose. He pushed through it the way young men do, told himself he was fine, and kept going. But something was always off. He was not functioning the way he knew he could. Things were harder than they should have been and he did not have a name for why.
When he eventually found Blair upper cervical chiropractic and received his first correction, the shift was immediate and undeniable. He walked home from that appointment knowing his entire life had just changed direction. He got home, canceled his remaining college classes, enrolled in biology, anatomy, and organic chemistry, and six months later he was in chiropractic school. Four classes away from his bachelor's degree. His parents were not thrilled.
He did not hesitate. When you know, you know.
Your Wounds Point to Your Purpose
Dr. Hall quoted a proverb from a book a friend of his had written: if you want to find your purpose in life, look at your wounds.
I have never heard it put more precisely than that. Every person on this podcast, including Dr. Hall and including me, arrived at this work through suffering. And every one of us has become a better practitioner because of it. Not despite the hard things, but because of them. The wounds gave us the empathy, the urgency, and the absolute certainty that this work is not optional. It is essential.
Fifteen years in practice. Nine thousand patients. And what still gets him out of bed every morning is the same thing it always was: the people who are at the end of their rope, who have tried everything, who have been told there is nothing left to try. Those are the people Blair upper cervical chiropractic was built for. And those are the people Dr. Hall will never stop showing up for.
The Blair Society and the Vision That Outlives Us All
Dr. Hall described the founding of the Blair Chiropractic Society with a humility and gratitude I found deeply moving. The doctors who started it in the early 1980s, when there were fewer than ten Blair practitioners in California, did so because they knew they were going to die. They wanted the work to live on.
Dr. Munsey, Dr. Forest, Dr. Harkins, Dr. Topping, Dr. Addington. They built something that would outlive them. And now Dr. Hall and I and the others on the board are the third generation of stewards. We will die too. The question is what we leave behind.
The mission of the Blair Society is threefold: protect the technique, evolve the technique through research, and raise public awareness. Currently, 99.8% of the world does not know upper cervical chiropractic exists. That is not a number that discourages Dr. Hall. It is a number that drives him.
His vision: a Blair upper cervical school on every continent. Research centers. A scoliosis study already underway at McGill University. A society funded not by pharmaceutical companies or government entities, but by the doctors and patients who have lived the results firsthand.
He said it with complete conviction: before we die, Blair upper cervical chiropractic will be known in this world. Period.
I believe him. And I am going to spend the rest of my career making sure he is right.
