Professional Referral for The Win

Michelle spent 30 years cycling through chiropractors without ever addressing the real problem until a Blair upper cervical correction changed everything, and then she brought her whole family in one by one.

There are patients who come in and get better. And then there are patients who come in, get better, and bring everyone they love with them. Michelle is the second kind. In less than a year, she had her son, her daughter, her skeptical husband, and eventually even her mom sitting in my chair. Four completely different people, four completely different presentations, one approach that worked for all of them.

That is the power of addressing the root.

Thirty Years and a Cervical Fusion

Michelle had been seeing chiropractors since she was 11 years old. That is a long time to be in care. And for most of those years, she kept getting adjusted, feeling better for a while, and then ending up back where she started. The adjustment would hold for a bit, then come undone, and she'd have to go back. She never understood why the relief never lasted.

Three years before she found me, her neck deteriorated to the point of needing a cervical fusion. After surgery, she could no longer have her neck manipulated in the traditional way. Her previous chiropractor, Dr. Mindi Jentes, started treating her with an activator technique instead. That helped. But Dr. Mindi Jentes had been trying to send Michelle to me for two years before she finally made the drive.

Here's the honest truth: Michelle didn't come sooner because she didn't understand why she needed to. She had a chiropractor right there. What was the difference?

The difference is that not all chiropractic addresses the same thing. Traditional full-spine chiropractic is valuable work. But the upper cervical spine, specifically C1 and C2, is a specialized area that requires specialized training and specialized technique. And for Michelle, that was exactly where the problem had been living for three decades. Not because her other chiropractors weren't skilled. Because no one had ever looked there.

When Dr. Mindi Jentes moved across the country and made the decision to refer her patients to three different providers, she gave everyone my name. Michelle was one of the families who decided to make the drive.

A Zipper Off Its Track

Michelle described her experience after her first Blair correction in a way I have never forgotten. She said it felt like a zipper that had been off its track at the top, and once it was fixed, everything below it finally lined up the way it was supposed to.

That is exactly what happens. The upper cervical spine sets the tone for the entire system below it. When C1 and C2 are misaligned, the body compensates all the way down. Muscles pull unevenly, the pelvis shifts, discs wear incorrectly. And no amount of adjusting the middle or lower spine will hold if the top isn't right. But when you correct the top, and it holds, the whole body has a chance to restack and heal.

Michelle has had one upper cervical correction. One. And in over a year, she has not needed another.

Her Son's Sciatica Was Gone Overnight

A few months into her own care, Michelle brought in her 15-year-old son, a cross-country runner who had been dealing with sciatic pain from an SI joint injury for six months. He had done physical therapy. Nothing was working. He couldn't run without pain.

After his first Blair correction, the sciatic pain was gone that night.

He was back to running within two to three days.

I never get tired of hearing that. Six months of treatment aimed at the symptom, and one correction to the root, and the body took care of the rest overnight. That is not magic. That is physiology doing exactly what it was designed to do when the interference is removed.

Charlotte and the Chapped Lips

Michelle's daughter Charlotte has sensory processing differences. She carries a lot of anxiety and emotion in her body, and that internal experience has a very real physical effect on how she holds her structure. Out of everyone in the family, Charlotte needs the most frequent corrections, and that makes complete sense given the amount of nervous system load she's managing.

But here's the thing about Charlotte that I find remarkable: we don't have to guess when she needs to come in. Her body tells us. When she goes out of alignment, she develops chapped lips, a specific ring of chapping around her mouth that clears up within two or three days of her correction. Every time.

I have seen some interesting and very specific indicators over the years, the ways individual bodies signal that something is off. Charlotte's is one of the most clear and consistent I've encountered. And the fact that she, at eight years old, can articulate that she "feels better on the inside" after her adjustment is extraordinary. That kind of body literacy in a child is a gift that will serve her for the rest of her life.

The Skeptical Husband Who Became a Fan

When Michelle started bringing her family in, her husband came along too. He was skeptical. He is a very practical, business-minded person, and I suspect he came mostly because his family was coming and he figured he'd see what all the fuss was about.

He gets it now. He is one of my biggest fans.

He is also someone I genuinely enjoy talking to because his business mind is sharp and he has helped me think through how to grow and communicate about this practice in ways I wouldn't have come up with on my own. There is something I love about patients who give back in ways you didn't expect. This family has done that in spades.

What She'd Tell a Skeptic

Michelle has a very grounded way of explaining Blair care to people who are doubtful, and it comes from a very real place: she was one of those people herself not long ago.

She tells them this: the reason other chiropractic felt like a treadmill, always having to go back, never solving anything, is because it was addressing the symptoms and not the source. The Blair technique addresses the source. And because it addresses the source, you don't need to keep going back in the same urgent way. You come in, you hold your correction, and the healing compounds over time.

She also tells them about her family. Because when one person's story might not be enough, four different people in one family, with four completely different conditions, all getting results from the same approach, that tends to make an impression.

It Takes Time to Heal

I want to close with something Michelle said that I think every patient needs to hear, especially the ones who get frustrated when healing isn't instant.

She said: "I think people need to understand that for as long as it took you to get into that pain and that chronic place, it takes time to come out of that too."

She is right. Thirty years of compensation doesn't unwind in a month. The retracing process, the layers that peel away as the body heals, takes the time it takes. And just because you're feeling great doesn't mean you stop coming in. It means you come in to make sure you keep feeling great.

Health is the goal. And every time you come in holding your adjustment, you are expressing that health more fully than you were the visit before. That is the journey. And it is worth every mile of the drive.
