Prana Vinyasa Yoga With Kelley Doyle

Yoga teacher and Prana Vinyasa trainer Kelley Doyle shares how Blair upper cervical chiropractic took her from unconsciously compensating with 35 years of yoga practice to feeling, in her own words, more herself than she ever had before.

Kelley Doyle has been doing yoga for 35 years. She has been teaching it for 25. She has a bachelor's degree in alternative medicine, has studied with some of the most respected yoga teachers in the world, and has guided over 108 students through teacher training in Prana Vinyasa flow yoga. She is, by every measure, someone who knows her body.

And she had no idea how out of alignment she was until she came to see me.

That is the thing I find most fascinating about Kelley's story. She was not suffering in the obvious way. She was not in daily pain. She was not desperate. She was functioning beautifully, achieving beautifully, and her body was managing the underlying structural issues the only way it could: by compensating. With 35 years of yoga. With strength and breath and presence and practice.

It was working. And it was exhausting her in ways she could not fully name until they stopped.

She Almost Didn't Come

Kelley found me through Brooke Mitchell, who trained under Kelley and then came to work at Well Connected. Brooke told Kelley she had to meet me. Kelley's whole body said yes immediately, which she trusted, because 35 years of yoga will teach you to listen to that.

But she also told me something she had never told anyone about chiropractic: she had been averse to it. Every time she imagined the bone-cracking, forcible manipulation she associated with the profession, her body shuddered no. She had always felt she could do that work from the inside, through her practice.

That is not wrong, by the way. She could. She had been. The question was what was underneath that she couldn't reach from the inside alone.

When she met me and heard me explain Blair upper cervical chiropractic, the gentle, specific, image-guided approach with no twisting, no popping, no cracking, something shifted. Her intuition, which she trusts completely, gave her a different signal. And she came in.

The Cat in the Hat

When Kelley tried to explain to me what life had felt like before her Blair correction, she landed on an image that I have thought about many times since.

The Cat in the Hat. The scene where he's balancing a fish bowl on one hand, an umbrella on another, books on his foot, a cake on his head, while standing on a ball. Somehow holding it all together. Just barely. At great cost.

"That's what it's like when you're not in alignment," she said. "Sure, you can do it if you're skilled enough. But it is exhausting. It's hard. And every aspect of body, mind, and soul tires out."

She had been the Cat in the Hat. A very accomplished, deeply practiced, brilliantly skilled Cat in the Hat. But the compensation required to keep everything balanced was consuming more than she realized.

When the underlying misalignment was addressed, the balancing act could finally stop. Not because she was suddenly different. Because the foundation was finally right.

What Was Actually Going On

When I took Kelley's history, it came out in layers. Car accidents and the neck issues that had followed. A broken femur in 2003, a rod placed from her hip to her knee, and all the structural compensation that followed that kind of impact. Shoulder injury from climbing. A spinal pattern she could feel in her upper thoracic spine and through her right side that no amount of yoga had been able to fully unravel.

And then, the week after her first session, she called me. Oh, and this. I forgot this. And this. It kept coming.

That is not unusual. When someone sits down and is finally given real space to think through their full physical history, memories surface that had been filed away as just life. Just things that happened. Not connected to anything current.

They are always connected.

Kelley had been counterbalancing all of it with her practice. Her yoga was doing the best it possibly could. But as she said herself: there was no way she could have done it alone. Some structural realities require structural solutions.

I've Never Felt More Me

About a month after we started working together, Kelley said something to me that sparked the whole idea for this episode.

She said: I've never felt more me.

Not better. Not improved. More herself. As if something had been returned to her that she hadn't known was missing.

She described walking out of her first full session and noticing immediately that her head felt different. Lighter. More balanced on her neck. She hadn't yet seen my tagline "get your head on straight," and she didn't need to. She felt it. Her words were: "I feel like I'm holding my head straight now. Something has changed so radically inside."

From there, the retracing began. Shoulder pain, elbow pain, upper back and neck pain resurfaced as her body worked backward through layers of stored compensation. She couldn't do her full chaturanga practice for about a month. She watched it with the same quality of attention she brings to her students: witnessing, curious, present. Not fighting it.

And then it cleared. And she felt stronger than she had before.

Bone Alignment Is Alignment With the Universe

This is the phrase Kelley arrived at on her own, and I want to give it the space it deserves: bone alignment is alignment with the universe.

She came to this through her yoga philosophy. She has spent decades studying how inner state informs outer shape, how the breath and the body and the mind are not separate but one continuous system. And then she experienced Blair chiropractic and felt, at a cellular level, that the same principle was true all the way down to the structural foundation.

When her spine was aligned, her nervous system could communicate. When her nervous system could communicate, her body was less consumed by compensation. When her body was less consumed by compensation, everything above it, clarity, creativity, flow, abundance, began to move more freely.

Her Ireland retreat filled six months ahead of schedule for the first time ever. Her teacher training students stayed fully engaged through COVID. The financial flow that had been a quiet source of struggle for years shifted into something that felt, in her words, like receiving.

She was watching her life reorganize. Not because of what she did differently. Because the interference at the root had been cleared.

About Prana Vinyasa

Kelley's yoga style, Prana Vinyasa, was developed by her teacher and soul sister Shiva Rea. It is distinct from other forms of vinyasa in a specific way: instead of simply breathing in the asana, the posture itself moves and pulses and flows. It lets the asana breathe.

Kelley has been an affiliate trainer with Shiva Rea since 2003 and has been leading her own Prana Vinyasa teacher trainings since 2011. She has guided over 108 students through that training.

Her yoga is available via kelleydoyleyoga.com and through her Patreon page, where she offers pre-recorded videos, live streaming, meditations, and heartstream audios. At the time of this recording, she had over 54 videos available and had made her Patreon accessible at $18 a month so that practice could reach everyone who needed it during that particular season.

Two Healers, One Mission

Kelley said something near the end of our conversation that I keep coming back to. She said: "Work from the inside out. Let your inner state inform the outer shape. And allow that to ripple into the shape of your life."

That is yoga. That is also chiropractic. That is, in every way, what I believe about health and healing.

Structure dictates function. That is mine. And Kelley's version: bone alignment is alignment with the universe. Two ways of saying the same true thing.

We are a dynamic duo. And I cannot wait to see where that takes us.
