Some stories are too good to be explained away as coincidence.

Brooke Evelyn's is one of them.

She came to find me because of a severe tendinitis injury that made it impossible to keep waiting tables. She heard about a "super gentle, holistic chiropractor" at a vision board party. Never got the contact info. Started researching on her own. Found this podcast. Listened to every single episode. Then heard me mention I was starting a new practice, without being able to say where. Still couldn't find me.

So she started looking for a front desk job at a chiropractor's office, thinking that might tide her over while she figured out her next step.

She applied. She interviewed. And then she realized: the chiropractor she'd just applied to work for was the one she'd been looking for all along.

That's the hand of God right there. There is no other explanation.

Thirteen PT Sessions. One Adjustment.

Before Brooke ever got her Blair correction, she came in with that wrist injury. She had done 13 sessions of physical therapy at that point. Thirteen. And her pain hadn't budged.

In one wrist adjustment, the pain was gone.

I want to be clear: I'm not saying this to brag. I'm saying it because it illustrates something I try to explain to patients all the time. If the underlying structural problem isn't addressed, you can do all the therapeutic work in the world and still not get where you want to go. When the system is broken, you get broken results. But when the nervous system is working the way it's supposed to, everything else has a much better chance of doing its job.

Brooke held her Blair correction from September 2019 onward. And what she described in the months after is something I hear again and again from patients: it wasn't just physical. The emotional stuff started to surface too. She began making clearer decisions. She felt more aligned, not just in her body but mentally and spiritually.

"My life has truly changed from that one Blair correction," she said. And she meant it in every sense of the word.

Following the Breadcrumbs

Before COVID, Brooke was on a path toward chiropractic school. She rearranged her schedule to take the prerequisite courses: chemistry, physics, statistics. She was well on her way.

Then the world shut down.

And in that strange, slow season, something else opened up. She started receiving craniosacral therapy from our massage therapist, Nick. A few sessions in, she felt a pull in a different direction. One that was a little quicker, a little more accessible right now, and one that still honored the thing she knew was true about herself: she was going to heal people with her hands.

She enrolled in massage therapy school.

"I was following the breadcrumbs," she told me. "I knew I had this in me, that I was going to heal with my hands in some way."

That is what I love so much about Brooke. She doesn't force the path. She follows it. She trusts that the next step will show itself, and then she takes it. That kind of faith in the process is something I think all of us are still learning.

What She Said to the Skeptics

I asked Brooke to speak directly to the people who are nervous about Blair chiropractic. Maybe they've had a bad experience with a different kind of adjustment. Maybe the idea of someone working near their neck makes them anxious. Maybe they've just been told for years that their issues are something they'll have to manage forever.

Here's what she said:

"With Blair, I know that what I'm receiving is specifically engineered for my body. Therefore, it has more chances of sticking and working. And for the skeptics, stick with the plan. Healing takes time. Be patient with yourself and trust the process."

That last line is one I say all the time, but there's something different about hearing it from a patient. Brooke has lived this. She has been through the retracing periods, the moments where her body is going back in time to re-heal something, and she's learned to recognize those experiences for what they are: signs that healing is happening, not that something is wrong.

She described a Blair correction as a moment of peripety. (I loved that word. She pulled it from one of her favorite Bible teachers.) Peripety means to turn and go in a different direction. And that's exactly what it is: you're not just fixing one thing. You're turning away from a degenerative path and starting a regenerative one. What comes next is bigger than you can fathom the day you walk in.

The Practice She Helped Build

I have to be honest with you: Well Connected would not be what it is without Brooke.

The Instagram posts, the YouTube content, the Facebook presence, all Brooke. The text messages that went out to patients during COVID to bring them back in, all Brooke. The warm, welcoming energy that people feel the moment they walk through the door, very much Brooke.

She's also the one who came up with the question we ask every guest on this podcast: "What does it look like to live your life in alignment?" I asked her where that came from and she said: "I got downloaded. The Holy Spirit gave it to me."

I believe her completely.

And her answer to that question, for herself, was this: "To live my life in alignment means not only to have my Blair upper cervical correction, but from there, to have balance in my body, my relationships, with everyone around me and with myself, finding balance in all areas of life with love and connection. Not only to get rid of pain, but to really evolve and expand into the person that I want to be."

That is exactly why we do this work.

A Note on Retracing (and Why It's Worth It)

One thing Brooke mentioned that I want to highlight for anyone new to upper cervical care: retracing is real and it can feel weird or even discouraging when you don't know what it is.

Retracing is when your body goes back through old injury or dysfunction as it heals. You might feel something you haven't felt in years, an old ache, a familiar tension, a wave of emotion. It's not a setback. It's your body doing exactly what it's supposed to do: healing in reverse order, layer by layer.

Brooke has been through it and come out the other side stronger. With every period of retracing, the body becomes more resilient, less subluxated, more whole. It takes time to become dysfunctional, and it takes time to heal. That is just the truth.

But what comes on the other side is worth every step of the journey.
