How to Build Confidence With Libby Jason

Style expert, confidence builder, and networking extraordinaire Libby Jason shares how the way we present ourselves to the world is never really about the clothes, and why taking care of yourself on the outside is an act of faith, not vanity.

I have known Libby Jason for at least ten years. She has been one of the first people to sign up as a vendor at our Be Well Summit year after year, she has been a patient in this practice for nearly 29 years, and every single time I am around her I leave feeling lifted up, seen, and edified. That word, edified, does not come up often enough. But it is exactly the right one for Libby.

She is a style expert, a confidence builder, an author, and a speaker. And as she was quick to tell me: the style part is just the vehicle. What she is really doing is helping people feel valuable, visible, and brave enough to let the world see who they actually are.

That is not a small thing.

She Arrived in an SUV She Couldn't Walk Out Of

Libby came to Blair upper cervical chiropractic the way a lot of people do: through a friend who refused to let her keep suffering. She had been hauling crates and Italian dinnerware and tablescaping props for her tabletop design company for years, and during one particularly brutal holiday season, her back gave out completely. She could not walk into the office. Her girlfriend loaded her into the back of an SUV and drove her in.

But before she could even get through the door, her medical-family skepticism had to be addressed. Her husband is a physician. Her household was not exactly a chiropractic household. When her girlfriend suggested she get adjusted, Libby had all the usual reservations.

Her girlfriend asked her a question that settled it: have you ever had bad shrimp at a restaurant? Yes. Did you stop eating shrimp? No. You just found better shrimp.

The same logic applies. A bad experience with one chiropractor is not a reason to write off the whole profession. It is a reason to find someone who does it right.

She felt better after her first adjustment. That was nearly 29 years ago. She has been holding her Blair correction ever since, including the time she fell down the stairs running too fast and missed the last step. Even that did not knock it out. Libby Jason is, as I told her on the podcast, the holder of all holders.

Clarity Breeds Confidence

I wrote something as a student that I have never forgotten: clarity breeds confidence. And it came up in this conversation because what Libby does and what I do are different expressions of the same principle.

When I look at a patient's unique anatomy through their 3D imaging and engineer a correction that is specific to exactly how their body is built, I am not applying a generic solution. I am responding to an individual. And when that correction holds and the brain and body can communicate clearly again, something shifts: people stand taller, think more clearly, make better decisions, and move through the world with more ease.

Libby sees the same thing happen in a closet.

When she works with a woman and helps her understand what colors and silhouettes and styles are actually hers, not trends, not what someone else told her looked good, but what is genuinely aligned with who she is, that woman stands differently. She makes eye contact. She approaches people she would have walked past before. Her whole body posture changes.

From the inside out. From the outside in. Both directions lead to the same place: a person who knows who they are and is no longer hiding it.

What Your Style Is Actually Saying

Libby's question for every client is: what story is your style telling about you?

Is it saying: I love people, I'm interested in you, I'm fun, I'm here? Or is it saying: I'm invisible, I don't care, don't bother?

That second message is almost never intentional. It is almost always the result of someone who has been so busy taking care of everyone else that they have stopped investing in themselves at all. And Libby is direct about this, in the most loving possible way: when you model self-neglect for your children, you are teaching them that they too should put themselves last.

Your daughters are watching. When they see you get a massage, buy a blouse you love, take a bubble bath, get the haircut, they are learning that they are worth caring for. Not instead of others. Alongside. That is the lesson.

She also said something so simple and so true that I want to write it down: the Bible says do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It does not say instead of yourself. It says as you would. Which means you have to actually know what that feels like from the inside.

A 29-Year Patient With a Skeptical Husband

I have to include this part because it is too good to leave out.

Libby's husband, the physician, has never technically become a patient. But he is, as she put it, moving in the right direction. When she comes in for a maintenance visit and leaves feeling better, he notices. He asks how it went. He says: oh, well that's good then.

She describes it perfectly: meet people where they are and love them into where you want them to be.

I would not have said it any better myself.

Find Libby

Libby Jason can be found at libbyjason.com, where she offers a complimentary clarity call for anyone who wants to explore what working with her might look like. There is also a freebie available at libbyjason.com/freebie, and her book is available on Amazon.

If you are in Orange County, you may already know her. She has been a fixture in the networking and wellness community here for decades. And if you do not know her yet, consider this your introduction.

She is one of those people who makes everyone around her feel like the most interesting person in the room. That is a rare gift. And she has spent her sixth decade figuring out exactly how to share it.
