Elizabeth Cappelletti did not want to come in. She had been to chiropractors before. She had worked alongside chiropractors as a massage therapist. She had gotten adjustments that helped temporarily and then stopped helping. She was in the worst pain of her life, barely able to move, and she had decided: nobody is going to be able to fix this.
Her mom dragged her anyway. And it changed everything.
It Started With a Tray of Food
Elizabeth's low back story begins at 18, when she was waitressing and had just started running on pavement without stretching properly. Her back was already feeling off when she picked up a heavy tray, heard something snap, and dropped the entire thing on the floor.
She kept working. She did not say anything. She was young. She figured it would be fine.
It was not fine.
A few years later, now working as a massage therapist, she was carrying a chair massage unit to a client's location. She loaded it into the car, drove to the gas station, got out, and fell to the ground. The pain was so intense she could not stand. She walked into the gas station like a ninety-year-old woman, told the client she could not help them that day, drove home, and tried to get up the stairs.
She got stuck in the middle of the staircase. Screaming. Crying. Unable to move. Her brother's girlfriend found her there and took her to the doctor, where X-rays showed nothing and she was given painkillers and muscle relaxers that numbed her brain and let her sleep but did nothing for the underlying problem.
She spent weeks in bed. She could not sit up. Getting to the bathroom was a journey. Everything she had wanted for her life, a family, dancing, movement, her career as a healer, felt like it was slipping out of reach. She was 23 years old and she was not sure how she was going to keep going.
Her Mom Brought Chocolate and a Phone Number
Elizabeth's mom showed up the way moms do: with food and a plan. She had been part of a networking group where she met a Blair chiropractor, Dr. Tomp, who had heard about what Elizabeth was going through. She told Elizabeth she needed to come in.
Elizabeth said no. Emphatically no. She had already been to chiropractors. She had experienced the three-times-a-week-forever approach that never actually resolved anything, only managed it. She did not have money for that and she did not have faith that it would be different this time.
Her mom brought her anyway. She walked in with her feet up on a chair, lying as flat as she could manage, wanting to be anywhere else.
What happened was completely different from anything she had experienced before.
She did not need to believe it would work. That is something I always say: chiropractic is a science, not a religion. You do not need faith for it to function. The correction either holds or it does not. The body either responds or it does not. Elizabeth's responded. And within days she was out of the worst of the pain and on a path she has been on ever since.
Why the Neck Fixed the Low Back
I want to explain this clearly because it is one of the questions I get most often: if your low back hurts, why are we adjusting your neck?
Here is the short answer: your head sits at the top of your spine. Your brain stem, the master regulator of everything in your body, exits your skull right at the atlas, the very top vertebra. If that bone is even slightly off, your body has to compensate all the way down, twisting and torquing to manage the transfer of gravity through a misaligned system.
Think of tire alignment on a car. If the alignment is off, one tire wears out faster than the others. Your discs work the same way. When the top of the spine is misaligned, the mechanical load does not distribute evenly. Discs at the bottom of the chain, far from where the problem originates, begin to bulge and irritate and eventually produce the kind of pain that puts someone on their kitchen stairs, unable to move.
When we correct the atlas and the head sits properly over the spine, the body can stack itself the way it was designed to. The discs are no longer being compressed unevenly. The nervous system is no longer fighting to route signals through a compromised structure. The low back, which was screaming, can finally quiet down.
That is not magic. That is anatomy.
The Life She Almost Gave Up On
Elizabeth dances now. She runs around with her kids at the park. She gets on the floor and plays with them, lifts them, carries them. She was pregnant and gave birth. She built a thriving therapy practice and shows up fully for the people who come to her for help.
She does all of that because someone in a networking group told her mom about Blair chiropractic, and her mom was stubborn enough to drag her in anyway.
She also sends everyone she knows. Every client dealing with pain that is affecting their mental health, every friend whose body is not working the way it should, every person she can get her hands on. I always say: when Elizabeth sends someone, I know they are going to be a great patient, because she has already done the work of explaining why this matters.
That is a referral built on testimony. And testimony built on a life that is genuinely, visibly, beautifully full.
