I want to introduce you to Kevin Pecca. At the time of this recording, he was my intern at Precision Chiropractic in Rancho Santa Margarita, working toward his doctorate and learning Blair upper cervical chiropractic from the inside out. He is one of the most passionate students I have ever had the privilege of training, and when you hear his story, you will understand why.
This is the testimony that started everything for him. And it is one I have been honored to be a small part of.
Six Concussions and Four Years in the Dark
Kevin started playing ice hockey young and played competitively for years. Along the way, he sustained six concussions. Six. By the time his career ended at twenty, the cumulative neurological damage had caught up with him in ways that changed his entire life.
Blurred vision. Relentless headaches. Dizziness and brain fog that made basic functioning feel impossible. Anxiety. Depression. Knee pain. Hands that shook so badly at night he could not fall asleep.
He saw three medical doctors, three neurologists, a doctor of osteopathic medicine, and a psychiatrist. The message he received, again and again, was some version of the same thing: Kevin, you have had a traumatic brain injury. You may have to live with this for the rest of your life.
He was put on seizure medication for the tremors, antidepressants for the depression, and painkillers for the pain. Three months later, he felt worse than when he started.
He slipped into a very dark place. And he said plainly on this podcast that for the first time in his life, he did not want to be here anymore.
He sat with that feeling. And then, after a few minutes, he decided that was not the answer. He needed to see it through and find the root cause. That decision changed everything.
A Buddy Who Saw Past the Fake Fine
Two more years of searching. More doctors, more chiropractors, more physical therapists. Traditional chiropractic helped for an hour or two at a time, enough that he was going three or four times a week just to feel okay, but nothing was holding and nothing was getting to the root of what was wrong.
And then, while he was in chiropractic school and struggling to keep up, a friend who was tutoring him noticed something was off. He asked Kevin what was wrong. Kevin told him he was thinking about dropping out. That he did not think he could do this anymore.
His friend said: I know somebody who might be able to help you.
It was a Blair upper cervical chiropractor. Dr. Drew Hall. And the correction Kevin received in that office turned the light back on.
He described walking out of the adjustment and noticing the colors on the trees were brighter and greener. He got home and told everyone around him what had just happened. For the first time in four years, he wanted to be here. He felt connected. The depression and anxiety that had been with him every moment simply were not there anymore.
Not gradually. Immediately. From one correction.
No Two Spines Are the Same
What Kevin said about why Blair specifically made sense to him is one of the clearest explanations I have heard from a student, and I want to share it because it is exactly right.
He said: nobody has had the same traumas I have had. Nobody is built exactly the way I am built. So why would you give that person the same adjustment you give everybody else?
That is the heart of Blair upper cervical technique. We take three-dimensional imaging of your specific spine, analyze the exact geometry of your individual articulations, and engineer a correction built for your anatomy and nobody else's. We do not feel for tension and guess. We have the imaging, the analysis, the leg checks, the instruments. We know exactly what we are doing, why we are doing it, and when to adjust and when not to.
Kevin's adjustment held for three years from the day he received it. Before that, he was being adjusted three or four times a week just to get through the day. One specific correction, built for his spine, did what years of general chiropractic could not.
Feeling the Healing
Kevin used a phrase in this conversation that I immediately loved and have thought about many times since: feeling the healing.
He described it as noticing, in the weeks and months after his Blair correction, that his spine was physically changing. His posture improving. Nerve sensations as the retracing process worked through old injuries. A whole-body awareness of something happening inside him, something reorganizing and restoring itself.
That is what healing feels like from the inside when the nervous system finally has room to do its job. It is not always comfortable. It is not always fast. But it is unmistakable. And it is what keeps patients coming back, not because they are dependent on care, but because they can feel the difference and they want to protect it.
For the Students Who Feel Lost
Kevin had a message for chiropractic students who are going through the motions, taking tests, burning out, wondering why they chose this path.
He said: get out of the school bubble. The most important chiropractic education he received did not happen in a classroom. It happened by seeking out doctors, asking questions, doing internships, and being willing to be a student beyond the walls of the institution. His school prepared him for boards. Blair chiropractic gave him his calling.
Find what resonates. Find the technique that makes sense to you. And if Blair is the one, chase it. Because when you find the thing that saved your life, you will never have to wonder again why you show up every day.
