I have been a fan of Josh Grey since the moment I met him at the Blair Society convention in Las Vegas in 2015. He was early in his chiropractic education, full of energy, asking all the right questions, and making an impression on everyone in the room. Two years later, he is finishing his final year at Life Chiropractic College West, and the list of things he has accomplished in that time is genuinely impressive.

Student of the year for his entire college. First student liaison ever appointed to the Blair Chiropractic Society Board of Directors. Senior intern at the Life West Health Center. Planning a wedding. Helping chiropractors across Southern California with their technology. All at the same time.

He makes it look easy. He will be the first to tell you it is not.

Student of the Year

When a staff member at Life West approached Josh about nominating him for student of the year, he was genuinely caught off guard. She started listing everything he had done and he thought: has it really been that much?

That is the thing about showing up consistently and doing the work you care about. It does not feel like accumulation from the inside. It just feels like the next thing and then the next thing. And then someone reflects it back to you and you realize the distance you have covered.

He won the award. And his immediate instinct was to figure out how to use it: how to leverage the recognition to do even more for chiropractic and for Life West. That is the mark of someone who understands that a platform is not a destination but a tool.

Professional Skydiving

I asked Josh how he manages to do so much while balancing everything else that comes with final year and he gave me an answer I want to share with every student who is holding back because they are afraid of failing.

He described being super committed and super involved as like professional skydiving. Regular skydiving is scary. Professional skydiving is a different level of intentional, trained, practiced commitment. And the first time you do something hard, you are probably a C+. Then a B. Then an A. Then eventually it looks seamless from the outside, even though your heart rate is still climbing every time.

The key is starting. Just once. Finish it. Do it again. That is how mastery is built. Not from talent, and not without fear, but through repetition with intention.

I told him that reminds me of the first time I looked at a Protracto view in the clinic at Palmer College. I nearly had an anxiety attack. My instructor Todd Hubbard told me: just keep practicing. That was the most important advice I received in school. It holds for everything.

The Blair Society as Family

Josh met the Blair chiropractic community at a conference in Las Vegas, and what kept him coming back was not the party, though he enjoyed that too. It was the people.

He described reaching out to Blair doctors across the country and around the world at every stage of his education: before clinical, during clinical, and now as he approaches graduation. Every time, he received wisdom, encouragement, and a genuine investment in his success. Because in the Blair community, when a new doctor succeeds, it means more patients in every city can access care. That is not competition. That is a rising tide.

That is exactly the vision I have for this profession. When I pour my heart into seminars, when I pick up the phone for a student who has a question at 9 p.m., when I mentor interns and write letters of recommendation, I am investing in the future of care for patients I will never personally meet. And Josh is exactly the kind of future I am investing in.

The First Student Liaison

The Blair Chiropractic Society created a brand new position specifically to give students a formal voice in the direction of the organization, and Josh was appointed as the first person to hold it. His job is to channel the perspective of Blair student clubs from colleges around the world and translate that voice into something the Board of Directors can act on.

He described it as a huge undertaking. It is. And he is absolutely the right person for it.

What I love about Josh is that he understands the relationship between the present generation of practitioners and the next one. He is a receiver right now, taking wisdom and mentorship and community from the doctors who came before him. And he already sees himself becoming a giver. Not someday. Now, as a student. That orientation is rare and it is exactly what our profession needs.

For the Students Who Are Going Through the Motions

I want to close with something Josh and I both said in this conversation, because I think it is important for any student who is grinding through boards and exams and wondering if it is worth it.

When you find your why in chiropractic, everything changes. The philosophy, the technique, the patient results, all of it stops being abstract and starts being personal. Josh found his why as a patient under Blair care before he ever started school. He knew what he was chasing before he walked in the door.

If you have not found that yet, go looking. Get out of the school bubble. Attend a Blair seminar. Reach out to a practicing doctor. Ask the questions that are not on the exam. Because the most important education you will receive is the one you seek out for yourself.

And when someone sees your potential and invites you to do something that scares you: say yes. The pulse goes up. You do it anyway. And eventually it starts to feel like flying.
