Dreams Do Come True With Sachiko
One Woman’s Journey With Blair Chiropractic
As always, I am so excited about my guest. She has an incredible story about her journey in the Blair chiropractic world. I cannot wait for you to hear it. Sachiko, welcome to the show.
Thank you so much for having me. How’s it going?
It’s going good.
I love seeing how well and how quickly your practice has blossomed. I’m excited to share my experience with you.
It’s been neat to walk through this journey with you. I started taking care of you before I had Well Connected. Being able to share the journey, the transformation and all of the things is lovely. I’m excited for the readers to know. I want to know how did we get Well Connected?
This is a funny story to me because my best friend, Carla, who is quickly becoming one of your good friends as well, years ago, had suggested that I try Blair chiropractic. At the time it went in one ear and out the other. I’m like, “I see chiropractors.” Through a weird turn of events, through some pain and some challenges, another colleague of mine referred me to a different Blair doctor. I went to see him and it was good. I feel like I learned a lot about the Blair method and felt confident that it was going to support me. The challenge for me was that I kept having to get adjusted. I wasn’t holding. In the middle of that experience, I also got Bell’s palsy. I don’t at all attribute any of that to him. It was a crazy time.
Things happen exactly when they’re supposed to. Click To TweetLong story short, I was driving 40 or so minutes to visit him and then realized that you were right around the corner at your old practice. I’ve made an appointment. Whoever was at the front desk was like, “Who are you here to see?” I was like, “I don’t know. Who’s available? I’m here. Someone sees me.” I’m so grateful that they were like, “Do you want to see Dr. Hoefer?” I was, “Sure, why not?” It’s one of the most important decisions of my life that happened for me. I remember that first day sitting with you and talking through a lot of trauma, a lot of things that I had experienced and you unpacking for me why it is that my body was having a hard time. It was all so correlated. That’s something that of the twenty or so chiropractors had ever seen before, including the previous Blair doctor, nobody had ever put it all together for me. It was eye-opening. It was life-changing.
I do remember that day. I remember meeting you. I thought, “This lady is so dynamic.” I’m so happy that I get to be a part of this journey. How has your life changed since you’ve had Blair care? I am going to go out on a limb and say that you’re holding because I’ve had that experience with you. How has your life changed because you’re holding your Blair correction?
There are so many different things. First of all, I was having tons of neck and back pain that would put me out of work for weeks. I don’t have those issues anymore, even understanding how my body works together and how the whole concept of Blair for me. I’m the worst at explaining it. What I know to be true is that when I trust my body to do the healing work, when it’s in alignment, allow the space to heal and to do the work that it does on its own, instead of bugging in all the time. I feel like it has pushed me to work through and heal through other areas of my life. It’s given me so much energy. I have so much more mental clarity. I’ve been able to dig deeper into different projects. When we first started seeing each other, I was traveling a ton. My work depended on me being able to travel. Not being stuck in pain and unable to sit on an airplane for five hours is huge.
The biggest thing that I feel like sounds too good to be true but it’s 100% true is for several years into my marriage, my husband and I got to the point where we didn’t think we were able to get pregnant. After seeing you, making the domino effect of choices that created for me once I was in alignment, able to make better decisions and move differently, I was finally able to get pregnant. In December 2019, I finally got pregnant. We have a rambunctious and lively baby. When I talk to people who struggle with different infertility issues and things like that, I always mentioned my experience. We didn’t go deep down the infertility route, thankfully but I know for sure that without you, I would still be trying to figure that out or would have pursued other medical recourses. I’m so grateful to have a completely textbook, healthy pregnancy, healthy delivery and healthy baby boy. I thank you so much. I love you.
I’m going to cry because I know the struggle that you walked through with that. We talk about the fact that we provide the environment and then God allows things to happen. I move the bone and God does the healing. For you being able to keep your Blair correction holding and supporting you through that healing process, it ended up giving you the biggest gift of your life, which is your son. It’s so wild to be able to know that I was a part of ushering life forward, being a partner with the creator of the universe, that is so humbling and so magnificent at the same time.
I love helping people but I have no idea how you do what you do. I love the love that you have for the work you do. I’ll never forget the week after we had the baby. It was important for us to get him seen and in alignment. I’ll tell that story because that was crazy too. I remember laying down on the table. We’re doing your thing. You started pulling on my ears. I was like, “How did you know my ears are plugged?” You’re like, “Your body told me.” I’m like, “How did that tell you?” That was so crazy to me. Caleb and I have told many people about how powerful it was when we brought baby Caleb to see you for the first time. I trusted you implicitly. That’s your tiny little squish. He was always a good sleeper, always a good baby but he was fussy. Not crazy out of the ordinary but he happened to be fussy when we were with you.

The second you adjusted him, he immediately stopped crying. He went from being uncomfortable and crying to not only not crying but then smiling and engaging, seeming like he was so much happier and so much more comfortable. To this day, we never have an issue with sleep. He slept six hours every single night, and now he sleeps 10, 11 hours straight every night. He’s super healthy, hits all his milestones in advance. Not that it’s always a good thing because we have to start chasing him early, locking things up and all that stuff. Watching him grow has only reinforced and continue to reinforce my absolute belief in Blair chiropractic and my desire to tell everyone about how awesome it is. It’s not just about me being healthy anymore. He’s my whole world. Watching him be so perfectly healthy is a blessing. I’m so grateful.
It’s so rewarding to be able to help new parents with the fact that their baby sleeps better, has bowel movements regularly or isn’t having that colicky, fussy cry. Going through labor, giving birth and surviving that incredible journey to then have this baby who is communicating through screaming, not sleeping or not wanting to nurse on one side, it’s like, “Let’s get that figured out.” Everybody’s world is better. It’s so heartwarming for me to know that you trusted me with your body and then the journey through your pregnancy, as well as bringing your brand new baby to let me get to have an opportunity to serve in that capacity. You are the poster child for Blair chiropractic and wellness care for the family.
I’m happy to be. Put me on a poster. I will tell. I will sing the praises. I love it.
You are a great advocate for the work. You put your money where your mouth is. You refer your friends, your family. I didn’t even realize at the time that you knew Carla. It was around the time we were getting ready for the baby shower. I was like, “Wait, what?” Carla’s like, “I referred you here years ago.”
That would have saved me so much time, so much money, so much pain and not having to take off work. Carla’s mousy. I’ll give myself a little pass. I don’t think she was assertive with it. Had I listened at the time, it would have been a lot better.
I believe that it happens exactly when it’s supposed to. You went through all those experiences and had all the things happen so that you could appreciate the blessing that you have. That’s how I look at it.
Seek out Blair. Do it sooner rather than later. Your body will thank you. Click To TweetAt the same time, I’m so grateful. Everything happened just as it needed to. Being in my 30s, I was more deeply aware of how much I needed help than I would have been in my early twenties when she suggested it. However, I would say to anyone who’s reading, don’t do what I did. If someone is encouraging you to seek out Blair, please do it sooner than later. Your body will thank you.
I always quote one of my favorite authors, Wayne Cordeiro. He wrote this book called Divine Mentor. He says that there are two teachers in life, wisdom and consequence. Wisdom is listening to somebody else’s experience, learning from it and doing something in a timely manner.
I’m happy to be a cautionary tale. I will never forget working in a restaurant. This was funny. I was 23 or 22, working in a restaurant at the time. I had to take a whole month off work. If you know anything about working in a restaurant, you don’t have PTO. There’s no support for that. I was walking around with a cane for a month. My lower back was so locked up and the pain was radiating so badly down my legs that I couldn’t walk. The fact that I got through nine months of pregnancy, gave birth to an almost ten-pound baby and still have not experienced that pain is still a little bit mind-boggling to me because that was a staple in my life, excruciating pain.
Also, you didn’t go out of alignment. You didn’t have to have another upper cervical correction even having given birth. It’s so amazing. One of the questions I like to ask my patients and guests, especially because you’ve experienced this and you’ve lived it personally, what would you tell somebody who’s hesitant to try Blair compared to traditional chiropractic? Compared to other opportunities of modalities, maybe PT or going down the medical route with drug surgery, what’s your insight on that?
Having the experience of working with a couple of Blair doctors, one thing is true. It was all beneficial. I would prefer to work with you and had a much better experience compared to other chiropractic. The second, I was seen by Blair doctor, the approach is so integrative. Not just rock them and crack them like, “Your neck hurts. Let me crack it and leave,” but looking at how your body is moving together, what are the signs and symptoms and what is the body telling us. That is such a different experience. People are waking up more and more to the concept of holistic wellness. If someone is looking at traditional chiropractic versus Blair, I would say hands down, by far, even in my experience, not working with you, though I recommend it. I spent way less money on chiropractic once I started doing it and felt way better. That’s one major pro. Any time someone feels skeptical of something but it pops up, they’re hearing about it or they feel drawn to it, it’s because it’s a nudge. I would encourage someone to be willing to listen to the nudge and take action.
At the same time again, there was learning in that. Learn from wisdom and do it quicker. This small, still voice, this nudging has been so apparent in my life and the things that I’m working on. People don’t take the time to listen, be still and have that curiosity because pain is irritating. If you have chronic pain or you’ve suffered for a long time, it’s easy to slip down that road of, “I’ve tried that. It didn’t work.” Personally, I was a skeptic. I was in chiropractic school having grown up in the town where chiropractic was founded. I was a skeptic about Blair because I was like, “How could one bone, the atlas, make a big difference?” It changed my life instantly. I knew that I had to, first of all, spend the rest of my life talking about this. Becoming a Blair practitioner has been the most rewarding thing in my life professionally. Secondarily, don’t give up on yourself. If something else presents itself, try it. Listen but don’t give up.

There’s something in our human condition that has a deep relationship with suffering. Many people have tried to explain it. Civically, when it comes to physical pain and the body speaking to us constantly in that physical pain, it’s so different and a different experience to work with people and to work within Blair, understanding on a different level how the body is speaking. How it’s working and how it’s all interconnected. Traditional chiropractors are well-meaning. They do great work. In my experience, I was not able to get anywhere near the full healing that I’ve experienced physically, mentally, reproductively, emotionally. It’s, across the board, a vastly different experience.
I train interns. They come from chiropractic school. I don’t want them to think that they have to throw away all their training. You go to chiropractic school and you learn how to be a good doctor. It’s taking it to that next level and adding that extra something to your skillset and your toolbox, being able to confidently evaluate, detect and remove the thing subluxation and then being able to support it. It’s so rewarding to be able to train and teach in that mindset, knowing that we have a comprehensive evaluation. Thank you for recognizing that as a patient. You articulated the way that I like to educate the students that come and work here with us.
Honestly, thank you. After seeing twenty-something doctors, you were the first person who ever sat me down, asked me about my life experience and related it to the body. I’ll never look at my body differently and never look at how one thing has a ripple effect in the body and then in life differently ever again. It changed my view in the bodies. It’s so powerful.
Once you see, you can’t unsee it. We’ve talked about debilitating low back pain. We’ve talked about infertility, pregnancy, wellness care, family care, taking care of babies and pediatric chiropractic. This is a well-rounded conversation.
It highlights how many issues I had before we started working together. It was a laundry list of issues. I remember a previous chiropractor being like, “How old are you?” “I’m 22.” “Why’d you have all of these issues?” “I don’t know. Can you fix it?” All those things are real, miraculous experiences. I’m so grateful.
I like always to end the conversation with a question. It’s the tagline we have here at Well Connected. That is, “Live your life in alignment.” My question to you, Sachiko, is what does it mean to you to live your life in alignment?
When you're connected to God, and when your body is allowed to work properly, life is amazing. Click To TweetI love this question because I feel like it’s ever-evolving for me, especially as a mom. First and foremost, it’s getting clear on what my foundation is. That’s in my relationship with God and that’s been my relationship with myself. At the same time, understanding that the body is this vessel that I get to house the most important thing I have, which is my health, my ability to live and my vitality. For me, generally speaking, living next in alignment is truly honoring that, doing what I can to protect, foster and encourage healing in all areas of my life and in everyone I come across. It’s been an evolution in my life. There were many twists and turns.
The biggest thing that I’ve learned and the biggest thing that I feel like has impacted my life in the last few years is understanding that healing connection. When I’m connected to God, when my body is allowed to work properly, when I do the work to deal and heal through trauma and feelings, life is amazing. 2020 was a crazy year but the best year of my life. Genuinely because healing has been a powerful part of my life, I can’t say it enough. I’m so grateful for your role in all of this and grateful that God led me to you in this twisty-turny way. It’s been beautiful watching your journey with opening your practice, growing your practice and continuing to spread the message. I’m grateful for the platform to share my story.
The feeling is mutual. It’s one of the best parts of being a chiropractor to amazing people that they become friends, they become family. I love that I get to be a part of your family, watch your child grow, look at the developments in your life come forth and be overjoyed with all of the blessings. Even when there are turmoil and triumph, it’s awesome to be able to see you go through life with grace, strength and the ability to rise to the occasion on every level. I know it’s because your head’s on straight.
I 100% agree. Thank you for having me.
You’re so welcome. Thank you for sharing your story. I know it’s going to be a blessing to many people reading. Thanks for coming on the show, Sachiko.
