Upper Cervical Chiropractic Can Help Alleviate Allergy Symptoms

Allergy Treatment

What are Allergies?

When your immune system is confronted with certain foreign substances, this can trigger an immune response. This response is what we know as allergies.

Different substances and pathogens can trigger different types of allergic responses in different people. Some common allergens include pollen, mold, dust, dander, fur, or certain fragrances. Some people are allergic to insect bites, certain types of medications, or even certain types of foods.

Sometimes allergies can be mild, but other times they can be quite severe and cause serious health risks. Western medicine most often treats allergy symptoms as they arise; unfortunately, the root cause of allergies often goes ignored.

Signs and Symptoms of Allergies

There are different ways allergies can manifest, but generally, people who suffer from allergies experience a runny nose, sinus problems, sneezing, rashes, hives, or swelling. Allergic reactions can bring about bouts of fatigue, nausea, or congestion.

A person having a severe allergic reaction may go into anaphylactic shock. The immune system releases chemicals that cause the airway to swell, the heart to pound, and the blood pressure to drop. Without medical attention, anaphylaxis shock can be fatal.

How the Upper Cervical Spine Affects Allergies

The central nervous system is made up of the brain and the spinal cord, which join together at the brain stem at the base of the brain. The upper cervical spine consists of the seven upper vertebrae that run through the neck. They begin just below the brain stem and protect the uppermost part of the spinal cord.

The central nervous system is responsible for controlling all of the body’s vital responses, including the immune response. A misalignment of the vertebrae in the upper cervical spine can interfere with signals being sent from the brain to the immune system, causing abnormal responses.

Realignment of the upper cervical spine can help correct the problem, allowing nerve impulses to flow correctly and jumpstarting the body’s natural healing response.

How Our Allergy Treatments Work

Dr.  Elizabeth Hoefer of Well Connected Chiropractic offers treatment using the Blair Chiropractic Technique. The Blair technique is a specialized upper cervical technique that reestablish neurological integrity by correcting misalignments.

The Blair Chiropractic Technique does not involve the cracking, jerking, twisting, and popping associated with other chiropractic techniques. Instead, Blair practitioners use state-of-the-art diagnostic tools to analyze the anatomy to make individualized, precise, gentle corrections.

Dr. Hoefer will customize your treatment plan to include adjustments, massage therapy, nutritional supplementation, and anything else you need to help support upper cervical alignment and to restore the body’s overall health.
